I am all about sequins. Check out my Pinterest and you’ll see them making a pretty regular appearance. Velvet too while we’re at it – to quote George Constanza: “I’d drape myself in velvet if it were socially acceptable”. Don’t tell teenage me and my velour tracksuit, but I wasn’t making it work. I like to think my teenage self would be happy, however, with the progression of my style; she would certainly think it was cool I’m still sitting in parking lots. Oh yes, this was the cool thing to do most definitely.
This jacket is a super special piece of mine from Zara. I remember it was six years ago and it was between this Michael-Jackson-esque item and a pair of moto boots, which were also really awesome. I am so glad I picked this jacket in the end because it’s got such a chameleon effect on outfits. At night, the motorcycle jacket cut totally gives an outfit some edge, while during the day the sequins take everything up a notch. Seriously the best. I’ve had to take it to get snags fixed a few times and I will continue to do so until I’m forced to give it up.
I don’t know about you, but I really don’t prescribe to the “sequins being for evening” mentality, and I think it is starting to go to the wayside like “no white after Labour Day”. Lately I’ve seen brands like Banana Republic and J Crew doing a lot of sequinned pieces that are clearly meant for day, and paired with casual pieces, in my case ripped jeans and flats, creates such a cool look.
